Elango Mandram was established by seven founding members: Mr. Kodumudi Shanmugam, Mr. Vittal, Mr. Sachithanandham, Mr. Easwaran, Mr. Mesarpeta Krishnan V, Mr. Dr. Kangeyan Kalimuthu, and Mr. Vellore Sachidanandham. At a time when society discouraged caste-based names, they chose a name that reflected inclusivity and unity.
The first leadership of Elango Mandram included:
Mr. Vittal – President
Mr. Kodumudi Shanmugam – Secretary
Mr. V Krishnan – Treasurer
Mr. Thiyagarajan – Auditor
In 1976, the board decided to update the organization’s name to reflect the growing presence and mission, with prominent figures such as Mr. Vittal, Mr. Sachithanandham, and Mr. Pulavar R. Venkatachalam taking part in the decision.
